I think Blade Runner: The Final Cut is the best looking movie on blu ray.

@yousaiditzero: LOTR is an analogy for WWII. The eagles (America) knew that there was a war in Middle Earth (Europe) but felt that it did not effect them. They chose to withhold their services from the Fellowship (European Allies) until they could deny the reality no longer — the war effects everyone, and they must join the battle against tyranny. Frodo couldn’t fly to Mt Doom on an eagle because the eagles (sentient beings, not pets) chose not to help.

dude, you’re so full of crap. Tolkien constantly denied any comparison to WWII, not to mention the fact that he himself was in WWI, not WWII.
It was based on his desire and passion for mythos, and his distress at the lack of mythology in English history.
Comparisons can be made, but it’s a book about war, what do you expect to be comparing it to?

@effiedee I meant WW1 not WW2 — that was a typo. How precisely does Tolkien’s involvement in WW1 prevent him from writing a WW2 analogy, anyway? I am aware that Tolkien “disliked allegory in all its forms” and I’m aware of his desire to create a truly English mythos, but I was primarily commenting on why the fellowship did not ride the eagles to Mordor: the eagles did not realize the threat and chose to stay out of it (until the Lusitania was sunk – or Pearl Harbor bombed).

I really don’t think someone who references NASCAR, and considers watching the last two “Matrix” movies back-to-back should be bagging on the LOTR movies. You’re not exactly on stable ground in terms of taste in entertainment.

Oh I see, so if it’s not sports or one of your favorite hobbies or movies, you need to insult the people who enjoy it? You’re tech geeking over a lot of stuff, yet you slam “fanboys” anything related to Lord of the Rings? I have zero respect for people who put themselves out in a public spotlight and use that position to ignorantly slam those with interests different from them.

Matrix is one of my favorite trilogies.. it would be between starwars and matrix, or LOTR.. even though both have that same “chosen one” gimmick.. I love it

I would watch this move even though I’m not a fan of the comics. To be perfect, however, it would need the incomparable Dr. Horrible.
